1. Ciambelle
Basically a fancy word for fancy doughnut, I found ciambelle in basically every café I wandered into in Italy, no matter what city I was in. The Italians take their breakfast pretty seriously considering how little they usually eat. Any time prior to 10 or 11 in the morning, you’ll find locals lounging around a café bar with their espresso and a pastry -- the ciambelle being a popular choice. They're basically sugar-coated doughnuts (not powdered sugar, though) that are best dipped in chocolate. They're just somehow so much better than your average sugar-coated doughnuts.
