When frozen fruit comes to mind, we typically think of a plastic bag containing some tropical medley buried in the back of the freezer, only to see the light of day the one time of year we end up getting around to making smoothies. Fruit is usually bought and eaten fresh and seldom do we consider freezing our deliciously ripe produce. However, this new trend that started out as a unique dessert recipe has now blown up to redefining frozen fruit.
The original recipe, credited to food writer Frankie Gaw, takes frozen peaches, fresh cream, pistachios and brown sugar to make for the most delectable and fresh rendition of a peaches and cream dessert. TikToker @Carolinagelen remakes the recipe so viewers can get a glimpse of the aesthetic deliciousness of this sweet treat.
After Frankie Gaw’s recipe blew up, frozen fruit and frozen fruit shavings have become all the rage and primary ingredients in summer treats. Whether peaches, watermelon, mangos, strawberries or any in-season ripe fruit you can find in-market, it can be shaved and added to just about anything you can think of: Greek yogurt, frozen yogurt, vanilla ice cream, fresh cream, pudding or even your morning toast.
@Gracie_norton made her own take on the shaved frozen fruit trend by creating a fruit shaved ice bowl.
All you need to get started is to go to any local market and pick up some of your favorite fruits (we recommend peaches), pop them in the freezer for a couple hours and pull them out when you are ready to grate them. You can top the now grated frozen fruit on anything you want OR eat it plain as a fruit shaved ice bowl, as shown in @Gracie_norton’s recipe. Bon appétit!
